Since December 2006, the free-to-air package of the Media Group RTL Germany has been supplemented by three digital niche channels: RTL Crime, RTL Living and Passion.

Whilst RTL Crime is primarily aimed at males aged between 25 and 54, the target audience for Passion is women aged 25 and older. RTL Living, the first TV channel to exclusively offer top-quality formats themed on lifestyle, relaxation and consumer advice, has a general appeal for the 25 to 54 age bracket.

Since the Media Group RTL Germany first launched these digital niche channels, around five million households have signed up for the service. RTL Crime and Passion are amongst the top five pay-TV channels in terms of market penetration.

RTL Crime and Passion can be received throughout Germany on Sky Welt and RTL Living on Sky Welt Extra; they are further available via satellite on 'arena', via the digital cable networks of Unitymedia in Hessen and North Rhine-Westphalia as well as in the form of IPTV via DSL on T-Home, HanseNet/Alice and Arcor. Since March 2008, it has also been possible to watch the three pay channels via Vodafone MobileTV on a mobile phone. Since April 2007, viewers in Switzerland have been able to receive RTL Crime via the cable network of Cablecom. RTL Crime, Passion and RTL Living have also been available as digital channels on cable as part of the UPC bouquet in Austria since December 2007.
