Licensing & Merchandising

For several years now, the Media group RTL Germany has been pursuing a systematic diversification strategy, i.e. the core business of 'television' is being supplemented by further activities in order to maximize the exploitation of TV brands created by the media group. This includes merchandising (RTL Enterprises) as well as DVD, video and film distribution (Universum Film).

RTL Enterprises offers viewers the opportunity to 'get their hands on' a piece of the TV action. From "Gute Zeiten, schlechte Zeiten" and "Wolkenlos" through to "Deutschland sucht den Superstar", fan merchandising enhances the viewing experience and reinforces brand loyalty to program and channel alike. There are more than 500 licensed products including CDs, DVDs, fan magazines and books as well as classic fan items such as T-shirts and baseball caps.

Box-office hits 'Made in Hollywood', German cult cinema, thrilling TV movies, popular TV series and consumer advice programs – the demand for DVDs is constantly on the increase. A trend that the Media Group RTL Germany recognized early on and incorporated into its diversification strategy. Based in Munich, Universum Film has belonged to the media group since 1998 and is one of the leading home entertainment providers in Germany.
