Media Policy

Even in the digital age, commercial broadcasting in Europe is still regarded as one of the most highly regulated industrial sectors. At the same time, the convergent environment boasts a host of comparable services across different modes of transmission which are not subject to any, or any equivalent, regulatory framework.

The media policy activities pursued by the Media Group RTL Germany are focussed on ensuring that broadcasters can fully leverage their development potential within the digital environment. Only by introducing a liberal and fair regulatory policy can over-regulation of the classical TV offering be avoided in the future, and the current structure and diversity of Germany’s audiovisual media landscape be maintained in the interests of both viewers and media users alike.

The Media Group RTL Germany supports the work of the Federal Association of Private Broadcasters and Telemedia (VPRT), whose mandate it is to forge a sector-wide consensus, and thus publicly and appropriately represent the interests of all commercial broadcasters in Germany.
